Who I Am
I’m Kathryn, the artist and creative spirit behind Kathryn’s Studio Boutique. I was born and raised in Pikeville, NC. My mother was a middle school English teacher, and my father was a mechanic. They were both hard workers and made sure to instill those same values in my sister and me. As a child, I enjoyed writing stories and creating art. I dreamed of one day becoming an art teacher.
I graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School with Honors and developed a love for all arts. In addition to my art classes, I was the piano accompanist for the Falconettes and Falconairs. As a very shy student, I found playing the piano in front of so many people took a lot of courage. Through that experience, I learned that I could do hard things.
I graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Fabric Design and Weaving. I remember once having to cut the severely tangled yarn off the loom after having spent ten straight hours of tedious threading. I wiped my tears, restarted, and made an “A” on my assignment. I learned that perseverance pays off. Success doesn’t come easily.
For thirty-one years, I taught art at Northwest Elementary in Wayne County and then at Princeton Elementary in Johnston County. As a newly retired art teacher, I plan to focus on my own art and continue to spread my love of art through teaching adults and students. I am so happy to share my passion for art in the communities I love.
